Art plays alto on this, and much of the background is based on the numerous

From the Memoir:
Art loved playing behind singers, picking up on the musical line, the words, the emotion, and making something of it. And David gave Art almost total freedom, just asked him not to linger too long within Melanie’s vocal range. It was a thrill, always, to hear what Art could do, and this job, for an unsophisticate like me, was especially enlightening, because the obbligato was set so exactly alongside the melody, yet changed with every repetition.
