STRAIGHT LIFE
WAS published in 1979. It got rave reviews in the New Yorker, the Village Voice, Time Magazine. It has become a classic. Even so, the publisher has not opted to issue it as an audio book. Probably because, for these times, it is grossly politically incorrect. It was an honest book in which Art spoke (poetically and brilliantly) the language of his class, his race, his gender, and his time. So I am reading it aloud into a microphone and will continue until I either finish or drop dead. —Laurie Pepper
